Participation of Tunisia in the First Meeting of the African Union's Institutional Reform Follow-up Committee
On behalf of His Excellency Mr. Kaïs Saïed, President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, participated in the first meeting of the Follow-up Committee on the Institutional Reform of the African Union, held by video conference on October 24, 2025. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, in his capacity as the leader of the African Union's institutional reform project, and saw the participation of committee members, including heads of state and government of several member states, as well as the President of the African Union Commission.
Objective of the Meeting
The meeting allowed committee members to evaluate and examine the reform process, exchange their views, and present their observations and suggestions to accelerate the implementation of the African Union's reform program, in preparation for the Extraordinary Summit on the organization's reforms, scheduled for November 26, 2025, in Luanda, the capital of Angola.
Tunisia's Support for the Reform Process
In his speech on this occasion, the Minister reaffirmed Tunisia's total support for the African Union's institutional reform process, which aims to strengthen the efficiency and transparency of its organs to address current and future challenges, in accordance with the principles enshrined in the Organization's Constitutive Act and in light of the Africa 2063 Agenda. He emphasized that reform is an ongoing process that requires rapid, innovative, and pragmatic solutions, a constructive and realistic spirit, as well as a comprehensive and transparent approach.
Tunisia's Vision for the Reform Process
In this context, he also presented the main pillars of Tunisia's vision for the African Union's institutional reform process, which should be based on the principles of promoting democracy in the decision-making process, activating the rotation of high-level positions within the African Union, strengthening governance mechanisms and political and financial transparency in the management of its operations, and increased recourse to the Continent's resources to consolidate African autonomy.
