Tunisia Reaffirms Commitment to Developing Tourism Sector and Strengthening Cooperation with UNWTO
The Minister of Tourism, Sofiane Tekaya, has reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to developing the tourism sector and strengthening cooperation with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and partner countries, according to a statement from his ministry on Sunday.
Participation in the 26th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly
Sofiane Tekaya is representing Tunisia at the 26th session of the UNWTO General Assembly, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 7 to 11, 2025, under the theme "Tourism in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Redefining the Future".
Key Commitments
The Minister reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to:
- increasing the contribution of tourism to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through the promotion of investment, innovation, and renewal of tourist products, as well as the development of skills, according to the statement.
Bilateral Meetings
On the sidelines of the meeting, Tekaya held bilateral talks with:
- the Saudi Minister of Tourism
- the elected Secretary-General of the UNWTO
- his counterparts from Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Côte d'Ivoire, Zambia, Seychelles, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Spain, and Greece
- the Chinese Vice Minister
26th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly
The 26th session of the General Assembly, which marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the UNWTO, brings together over 160 delegations representing member states, including 120 ministers, according to the UN organization.
