Tunisia Participates in Francophone Ambassadors' Group Meeting with WHO Director-General
Tunisia reaffirms commitment to strengthening global health governance
On Wednesday, Tunisia took part in a meeting of the Francophone Ambassadors' Group (GAF) of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening global health governance.
On this occasion, the Permanent Mission of Tunisia to Geneva reiterated its support for the process of reforming the global health system, initiated by Dr. Tedros since 2017. This reform process has already led to significant advancements, including the adoption of a sustainable financing policy for the WHO in 2022, the revision of the International Health Regulations in 2024, and the ratification of the Pandemic Convention in 2025.
According to its representation, Tunisian diplomacy also called for accelerating the finalization of negotiations related to the annex of the Pandemic Convention, highlighting the central role of the Director-General in this dynamic.
Furthermore, Tunisia expressed its support for preserving multilingualism within the OIF, as part of ongoing reforms, in line with the commitments of the Djerba Declaration issued from the Francophonie Summit organized by Tunisia in 2022.
For his part, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus provided an update on the structural and financial reforms currently underway at the WHO, as well as discussions on the annex of the Pandemic Convention.
This meeting takes place just a few weeks before the 79th World Health Assembly, which will be held in Geneva from May 18 to 23, 2026, where several strategic decisions for international health architecture are expected to be finalized.
