Olive Production in the Region

The volume of olive production in the region for the 2025-2026 season is expected to reach 90,000 tons of olives, equivalent to 18,052 tons of oil, according to preliminary forecasts from the Regional Commissioner for Agriculture in Monastir.

Key Statistics

  • The total area of olive trees in Monastir has reached 64,000 hectares, accounting for 74% of the governorate's total agricultural area.
  • The harvest for the 2024 season is estimated to be around 81,890 tons of olives, equivalent to 16,400 tons of oil.
  • The region is home to 12 oil mills, with 86 having been opened since the last season (2024-2025), with a capacity of nearly 1,845 tons per day.

Waste Management

  • The region has 5 marginal landfills with a capacity of nearly 89,000 m3 in Bekalta, Menzel Fersi, Menzel Kamel, Mesjed-Aïssa, and Ouerdanine.
  • Two landfills located in Menzel Kamel and Mesjed-Aïssa have reached their maximum capacity.
  • The Oued El Jebs area in Ouerdanine has been proposed as a site for a new landfill.
