Minister of Foreign Affairs Emphasizes Need for Closer Coordination to Enhance Peace and Security in Africa

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, has stressed that strengthening peace and security in Africa requires closer coordination between countries on the continent. Speaking at the 12th session of the high-level seminar on peace and security in Africa, currently being held in Algeria, he also highlighted the importance of:

  • Enhancing preventive diplomacy
  • Strengthening military and security cooperation
  • Exchanging intelligence information
  • Unifying national strategies to combat crime and terrorism, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nafti recalled that Tunisia has always supported African and international efforts to establish peace, strengthen security, and consolidate stability, particularly in Africa, through its active participation in United Nations or African Union peacekeeping missions. On the sidelines of this event, the Minister met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who highlighted the outcomes of the international conference on "the role of armed forces in protecting civilians during peace operations," held in Tunisia last July in partnership with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
