Tunisia Participates in the Second Italy-Africa Summit
On the instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, participated today, February 13, 2026, in the works of the second Italy-Africa Summit, held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
Key Highlights of the Summit
On this occasion, the Minister delivered Tunisia's speech, in which he recalled the privileged friendship relations between the two countries, as well as Tunisia's willingness to actively contribute to strengthening the partnership between the African continent and Italy. He emphasized Tunisia's support for all initiatives from continental partners aimed at consolidating cooperation, solidarity, and mutual interest relationships, based on mutual respect and trust, breaking with traditional cooperation mechanisms in favor of a sustainable, balanced, and mutually beneficial partnership model, promoting development, stability, and shared prosperity.
Support for African Countries
The Minister reiterated the aspiration of African countries to benefit from increased support to face the challenges they are facing, whether traditional or emerging. He welcomed the Italian government's decision to convert a significant portion of African countries' debt into local development projects in vital sectors, including education, vocational training, renewable energy, food security, and water security.
Evaluation of the "Plan Mattei" for Africa
Finally, he highlighted the importance of the summit as an opportunity to evaluate the "Plan Mattei" for Africa, listen to the views of African countries, review progress, and define priorities and next action modalities to ensure the continuous development of this initiative.
