Boosting Tourism in Bizerte: Regional Council Session Focuses on Sector Development
A special session of the Regional Tourism Council, chaired by Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Sofiane Tekaya, was held on Wednesday to discuss the dynamization of the tourism sector and the release of pending projects in the Bizerte governorate.
Key Objectives
The session aimed to examine the necessary measures to overcome structural obstacles hindering the development of the tourism sector in the region, according to a statement released by the governorate. The meeting focused on:
- Improving Tourism Indicators: Efforts are being made to enhance the sector's performance, particularly in terms of domestic and neighboring tourism.
- Supporting the Artisanal Sector: Measures have been taken to benefit the artisanal sector, following the President's visit to the Sejnane delegation. These include:
- Allocating a plot of land for the creation of an artisanal village
- Supporting the commercialization of products by 30 artisans from Sejnane
- Renovating the exhibition gallery of the regional handicrafts delegation
- Accelerating Investment Processing: Efforts are being made to expedite the processing of pending investment requests, with a view to promoting projects that can increase the region's capacity to welcome visitors and diversify its tourist offerings.
Regional Potential
Governor of Bizerte Salem Ben Yacoub emphasized that the region boasts exceptional natural, cultural, and historical assets, making it a promising destination. He called for:
- Streamlining Procedures: Reviewing the procedural and legal frameworks to facilitate investment
- Upgrading Hotel Establishments: Improving the region's hotel infrastructure
- Supporting Project Owners: Accompanying project owners and promoting alternative tourism
Notable Projects
The governor announced the resumption of work on the "Marina Bizerte" project, considered one of the region's most significant tourism investments. Additionally, a strategy is being developed to rehabilitate the Old Port of Bizerte.
