National Energy Strategy Aims to Reduce Energy Consumption by 30% by 2030

Abdelhamid Gannouni, Director of Energy Efficiency in the Transport Sector at the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), announced that the national energy strategy aims to reduce energy demand and consumption by 30% by 2030, with 35% of the electricity mix coming from renewable energy sources, primarily solar.

During his intervention on Friday, October 24, 2025, on National Radio, Abdelhamid Gannouni specified that major wind energy projects will be operational before 2030. He added that the strategy also aims to reduce energy consumption by 37% by 2035 and achieve 50% of renewable energy in the electricity mix.

The official further indicated that the transport sector is the largest energy consumer, accounting for 56% of national consumption, followed by buildings (27%), industry (26%), services (9%), and agriculture (6%). He noted that 50% of the energy consumed by the transport sector is destined for private vehicles, while the other half is shared between public transport and goods transport, emphasizing the importance of investing in electric vehicles to achieve energy savings and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Abdelhamid Gannouni finally stressed the need to develop new energy sources, valorize national resources, promote renewable energy, and rationalize consumption to reduce energy demand and overcome the energy deficit, which had reached 60% by the end of 2024.

Key Objectives of the National Energy Strategy

  • Reduce energy demand and consumption by 30% by 2030
  • Achieve 35% of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030
  • Reduce energy consumption by 37% by 2035
  • Achieve 50% of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2035
  • Develop new energy sources and valorize national resources
  • Promote renewable energy and rationalize consumption to reduce energy demand and overcome the energy deficit.
