President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, Presides Over Evacuation Day Ceremony
The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, presided over the commemorative ceremony of the 62nd anniversary of Evacuation Day, held on Wednesday at the Martyrs' Cemetery in Bizerte. Upon his arrival, the Head of State reviewed a detachment of the three armies and saluted the national flag to the sound of the national anthem. He then laid a wreath of flowers at the commemorative monument and recited the Fatiha in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
The President also greeted a group of former resistance fighters and militants from the region who were present at the official ceremony. Subsequently, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Kaïs Saïed visited the Martyr Commander Mohamed Béjaoui Square, which he had ordered to be rehabilitated during his visit on October 15, 2024. This rehabilitation allowed for the elimination of surrounding anarchic installations and the erection of a monument in memory of the hero. The President recited the Fatiha in memory of Commander Béjaoui, one of the heroes of the Battle of Bizerte, who fell on July 21, 1961, while leading his men into combat. The Head of State then visited the Hassan Nouri intersection, near the Echaârafa neighborhood in Bizerte, in front of the monument dedicated to the martyr officer Hédi Ouali, who fell on July 22, 1961, at the age of 25, while defending national sovereignty. As part of this visit, Kaïs Saïed also took note of the progress of the rehabilitation and modernization works of the gynecology-obstetrics department of the Bizerte hospital, a project with a total cost of 16 million dinars. The works include the installation of modern equipment, the renovation of civil engineering structures, air conditioning, and electrical networks, as well as the development of the establishment's basement. On the sidelines of this visit, the President met with several inhabitants of the region and listened to their concerns. Present at the ceremony were the Minister of National Defense, Khaled Sehili, the Governor of Bizerte, Salem Ben Yaâcoub, the Secretary General in charge of managing the municipality of Bizerte, Imen Zawawi, as well as high-ranking military and administrative officials.
