Tunisia Officially Launches Two New Maritime Surveillance Vessels
Tunisia has officially commissioned two new maritime surveillance vessels, "Hannibal 3" and "Hannibal 4", marking a significant milestone in strengthening national capacities for monitoring fishing activities and protecting marine resources.
Key Features of the New Vessels
These two units were obtained as a donation under the Tunisian-Japanese cooperation framework, which aims to support Tunisia in developing its logistical and technical capabilities for maritime surveillance.
Enhanced Surveillance Capabilities
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, the new vessels will enable intensified control operations at sea and more effective combat against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, a phenomenon that threatens the sustainability of national fish resources.
Modernization of Maritime Surveillance
The entry into service of "Hannibal 3" and "Hannibal 4" represents a major breakthrough in the modernization of the national maritime surveillance system, contributing to better governance of the fishing sector and sustainable exploitation of marine wealth, in line with Tunisia's international commitments.
