Ministry of Education Publishes New Decrees
The Ministry of Education published six new decrees in the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic (JORT, No. 118) on Thursday, September 25, regarding the increase of several allowances granted to executives and teachers in the education sector, with retroactive effects and payments scheduled for 2026.
Increased Allowances for School Directors and Teachers
The first three texts concern the allowance for secondary school directors and the special allowance for school supplies. Decree No. 417/2025 sets the annual allowance at:
- 3780 dinars for principal directors
- 3090 dinars for deputy principal directors
- 2760 dinars for directors
- 2040 dinars for general supervisors
Decrees No. 418 and 419/2025 increase the special allowance for primary, college, high school, and pilot high school teachers to cover their school supply expenses. These increases apply from September 2024 and September 2025, but the balance due for the 2024 increase will only be paid in September 2026.
Extended Measures for Supervisors and Pedagogical Inspectors
The other three decrees extend these measures to supervisors and pedagogical inspectors. Decree No. 420/2025 increases the allowance related to the numerical base and school time for supervisors of public colleges and high schools, while No. 421/2025 concerns general supervisors. Finally, Decree No. 422/2025 creates a "posting allowance" for pedagogical inspectors of primary, college, and secondary schools.
Retroactive Effects and Payment Schedule
All these increases take effect retroactively from October 2022, January 2024, and January 2025, but the arrears for the years 2022 and 2024 will only be settled in September 2026.
