State Secretary for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, Announces Imminent Launch of Major Solar Energy Projects
The State Secretary for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, has announced the imminent launch of large-scale solar energy production projects in the country: 100 MW in Kairouan, 50 MW in Sidi Bouzid, and 50 MW in Tozeur. During the opening of the third edition of the International Energy Transition Exhibition in Tunis, Chouchane described the event as a platform for dialogue that brings together all stakeholders in the energy sector - public, private, civil society, and experts. He emphasized that the exhibition plays a crucial role in supporting and attracting new investments in energy transition.
National Objective for Renewable Energy
Regarding the national objective of producing 35% of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030, the State Secretary affirmed that Tunisia is on track to achieve this goal. Chouchane further stressed that energy transition has become a national economic project. "We have decided to take the initiative and rebuild our model on new foundations, based on diversification, renewal, transparency, resilience, and openness," he added.
Structural Transformation in Energy Transition
In recent years, Tunisia has undergone a structural transformation in the field of energy transition, with reforms aimed at improving the legislative framework, simplifying procedures, and strengthening governance. Some of these measures have been integrated into the 2026 finance law, while the latest adjustments are ongoing as part of the reform of the Energy Transformation Fund.
Strategy 2035
According to Chouchane, the 2035 strategy aims to ensure sustainable access to modern and secure energy services for all citizens and economic actors, with ambitious objectives. The projects implemented so far have enabled the creation of a solid Tunisian sector, capable of achieving local integration rates sometimes exceeding 50%. This success will also allow Tunisia to export its expertise, technologies, and services to regional markets, contributing to strengthening long-term energy security.
