Winter Tourist Season Kicks Off on a Positive Note in Tozeur Governorate

The winter tourist season has begun with promising signs of recovery and investment in the Tozeur governorate. Notable developments include the reopening of an iconic hotel in Tamaghza, which had been closed for several years, and the upcoming reactivation of a 4-star hotel in the city of Tozeur, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

According to Regional Tourism Commissioner Adel Sbaita, these reopenings are part of a relaunch strategy prepared at the beginning of the summer, in close coordination with various sector stakeholders. He emphasized that these efforts aim to strengthen the region's attractiveness for both local and international visitors.

In the same vein, the Tozeur Saharan tourist station has been officially acquired by the international group TUI, a global leader in the tourism industry. This operation will enable an upgrade of the local offer and is expected to attract more European and international visitors. The TUI group will officially take over the management of the station starting from November.

Meanwhile, several alternative accommodation projects, including tourist and rural residences in the heart of the oases, are in the final stages of administrative completion and will enrich the region's hospitality offer.

Tozeur is also preparing to host several major events, including the 2nd edition of the International Oasis and Saharan Tourism Fair, scheduled to take place from December 2 to 4, 2025. This fair will serve as a promotion and networking platform for professionals in the sector, both Tunisian and foreign, with a particular focus on sustainable and Saharan tourism.

Initial booking data suggests a significant increase in overnight stays and visitor numbers by the end of the year and early 2026. These dynamics are expected to contribute to achieving the national objective of 11 million tourists by the end of 2025.
