Hammamet Hosts 8th Edition of Francophone Transport and Mobility Conference

The city of Hammamet is hosting the 8th edition of the Francophone Transport and Mobility Conference from May 11 to 13, 2026. This event, organized for the first time in Africa and the Arab world, brings together over 250 researchers, experts, decision-makers, and professionals from various French-speaking countries, including European, African, and Canadian nations.

The official opening ceremony was marked by a speech from the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mondher Belaïd, who emphasized the importance of hosting this scientific event in Tunisia. He highlighted the country's role as a regional actor in developing specialized skills in maritime transport, intelligent systems, and sustainable mobility.

According to the organizers, this forum serves as a platform for exchange between countries from the North and South of the Mediterranean. The conference focuses on interdisciplinary themes, including economics, geography, management, and information technology applied to transportation systems.

Karim Kamoun, President of the Association for Economic and Social Research and Development, stated that Tunisia is the first African and Arab country to host this event. He added that this edition aims to deepen discussions on the major challenges facing the land, sea, and air transport sectors, particularly carbon emissions, intelligent mobility, and sustainable transportation solutions.

Participants will also explore future urban mobility and new approaches to organizing transportation in cities.

Ahmed Haj Kacem, President of the University of Sfax, noted that this conference is an unprecedented international scientific event in the region. He emphasized that the forum aims to transform scientific research results into concrete applications, benefiting industrial enterprises and improving urban transportation systems.
