Rescue of Missing Sailors from the Mohamed Kamel Trawler
Two sailors from the Mohamed Kamel trawler, which had been missing since Thursday, October 2, were rescued on Saturday evening by a unit of the National Navy, after their vessel sank 30 nautical miles east of Kerkennah Island. The three other crew members were picked up by another fishing boat in the area. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the National Center for Coordination of Maritime Search and Rescue Operations immediately launched a large-scale search operation, mobilizing maritime and air resources as soon as the disappearance of the trawler was confirmed. Thanks to this operation, the five sailors were able to be located and rescued. They were then transferred to the main naval base in Sfax on board a National Navy patrol boat, before being taken to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care.
