Strengthening Military Cooperation between Tunisia and Egypt

The reinforcement of military cooperation between Tunisia and Egypt, as well as its development and diversification prospects, was at the center of a meeting held on Monday, February 9, 2026, in Cairo between Tunisian Minister of National Defense, Khaled Sehili, and General Abdel Mageed Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Egyptian Minister of Defense and Military Production.

Meeting Details

The meeting took place in the presence of two high-level military delegations, on the occasion of the closing of the 18th session of the Tunisian-Egyptian Joint Military Commission. On this occasion, Khaled Sehili praised the deeply rooted fraternal relations between the two countries, mutual trust, and convergence of their strategic interests. He emphasized that recent geopolitical developments, particularly in the Arab region, require an intensification of joint efforts to protect common interests and strengthen national security.

Importance of the Visit

The minister also recalled the importance of this visit, which follows the bilateral agreement on elevating the level of supervision of the Joint Military Commission's work to the ministerial level, reflecting a sincere willingness to transform military cooperation into a solid, durable, and operational strategic partnership. In this context, Khaled Sehili highlighted the regularity of the Commission's sessions, which provide a structured framework for bilateral military cooperation and the implementation of agreed-upon programs within the set deadlines. He expressed Tunisia's willingness to extend this cooperation to new promising areas such as scientific research, military health, technology transfer in the defense industry, development of operational capabilities, and exchanges between higher military academies to share experiences and harmonize training methods.

Egyptian Perspective

For his part, General Abdel Mageed Saqr emphasized the fruitful cooperation between the two countries and their common desire to build a military partnership based on mutual interest. He expressed satisfaction with the success of the 18th session and the richness of the discussions between the Tunisian and Egyptian delegations.
