State Secretary Calls for Enhanced Preparedness Against Floods

The State Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, in charge of water resources, Hammadi Habib, has called for strengthening the preparation of various concerned structures and ensuring close coordination between stakeholders at the central and regional levels to guarantee the effectiveness of preventive interventions against floods.

During a working session held on Thursday at the ministry's headquarters, dedicated to preparations for the rainy season, Hammadi Habib recommended mobilizing all necessary logistical means and anticipating any emergency situation, according to a statement from the department.

The recommendations include:

  • Completing and monitoring the maintenance work of dams, hill lakes, and small dams
  • Regularly checking precipitation measurement devices
  • Monitoring the level of wadis (seasonal rivers)
  • Controlling measurement stations in real-time

It was also decided to:

  • Update the inventory of equipment for fighting floods (pumps, transport vehicles, bulldozers, etc.)
  • Ensure their maintenance and optimal distribution to guarantee their immediate availability in case of need

The State Secretary also called for:

  • Inspecting earth dikes built on wadis
  • Repairing previously identified damage
  • Accelerating the program for cleaning wadis and restoring heavy equipment
  • Mobilizing the necessary human resources for rescue operations

The meeting was attended by:

  • Presidents-directors of central administrations
  • Regional delegates for agricultural development
  • A number of ministry officials

This call to action aims to ensure the country's preparedness for the upcoming rainy season and to minimize the risks associated with floods. By strengthening the coordination between different stakeholders and mobilizing the necessary resources, the government hopes to reduce the impact of floods on communities and infrastructure.
