Canada-Tunisia Forum: A New Era of Cooperation
This Monday, February 9, Tunis is hosting the "Destination Canada Forum Mobilité 2026". Over three days, this national event aims to transform the landscape of qualified expatriation. In an interview with Expresso, Ambassador Alexandre Bilodeau highlighted the importance of this edition, which brings Tunisian youth into direct contact with a multitude of Canadian actors, including provinces, professional associations, and employers seeking talent. Out of 10,000 initial applications, only 3,000 profiles were rigorously selected to discuss professional opportunities. These exchanges focus particularly on French-speaking regions outside of Quebec, where labor demand is reaching new heights.
A Shared Language and Common Interests
This migratory dynamic is based on a solid foundation, with the Tunisian community in Canada already estimated to be between 40,000 and 60,000 people. However, beyond the numbers, Ambassador Bilodeau is outlining a genuine geopolitical vision. In the face of an international order in full mutation, Canada is actively seeking to diversify its trade partnerships to ensure its economic sovereignty. In this quest for autonomy, Tunisia appears as a natural ally thanks to a shared language, common history, and deep cultural affinity.
A Future of Collaboration
The future of this collaboration is now being played out in technological and health fields. Ambassador Bilodeau highlighted the information and communication technology sector as a growth area that needs to be structured and supported urgently. Medical tourism is also a priority area for this new alliance. For Ottawa, the strategy is clear: to focus efforts where results will be the fastest and most concrete for both nations.
