Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti Highlights the Need for Africa's Effective Integration into the Global Economy
Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti emphasized the necessity of gathering the adequate conditions for a more effective integration of Africa into the global economy, thus contributing to the strengthening of the foundations of peace and stability in the region.
Speech at the 24th COMESA Summit
In a speech delivered before the 24th session of the COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Nairobi, Kenya, the Foreign Minister stated that Tunisia, faithful to the principles uniting the COMESA member states, reaffirms the importance of creating a conducive environment for security and peace in the region. This environment is essential for a better economic and commercial integration within this vital African regional space.
Tunisia's Strategic Choice
The Minister indicated that Tunisia's accession to COMESA constitutes, and remains, a strategic choice in favor of African openness and integration. He noted that Tunisia has made significant progress in implementing the agreement and is among the top five exporting countries to the states of this space, as stated in a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Legislative Texts and Cooperation
Tunisia has also worked towards the adoption of legislative texts facilitating cooperation within this economic bloc, such as the Agreement signed on the occasion of the Regional Forum for Strengthening the Capacities of Competition Authorities, held in April in Tunis, in collaboration with the COMESA Competition Commission, the Minister recalled.
Contribution to Program Implementation
He also specified that Tunisia is actively contributing to the implementation of the executive program in the areas of seeds and food security.
Tunisia's Economic Role
The Minister further affirmed that Tunisia can play the role of an economic and logistical hub in inter-African trade, as well as a platform linking African countries and the European space, thanks to its geographical position as a bridge between North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The 24th Session of the COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government is being held in Nairobi, under the presidency of the Kenyan President, in the presence of the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Organization.
