Tunisian Prime Minister Meets with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President in Nairobi

On Monday, May 11, 2026, Tunisian Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzeri held a meeting with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso at the University of Nairobi. The meeting was attended by Tunisian Ambassador to Kenya Anouar Ben Youssef, on the sidelines of the Africa-France Summit "Africa Forward".

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed Tunisia's appreciation for the EBRD's continued commitment to supporting development programs and projects, both in the public and private sectors. She emphasized Tunisia's ambition to elevate its cooperation with the EBRD to a higher level in the coming period, with the aim of establishing a new dynamic of bilateral partnership and expanding areas of cooperation to serve the interests of Tunisia and its people's aspirations for equitable development and social justice, while respecting national choices and ensuring a dignified life for all Tunisians.

She specified that this orientation is based on supporting projects with high added value and tangible economic and social impact, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, phosphates, business climate improvement, and human capital valorization. She also emphasized the need to strengthen social sectors, considered essential levers for achieving global development.

The Prime Minister also stated that Tunisia has chosen to expand its strategic partnerships on the international scene based on mutual respect, parity, and the realization of common interests, in line with the orientations of the President of the Republic.

From her side, the EBRD President expressed her joy at the convergence between Tunisia's national priorities and the EBRD's areas of intervention, particularly in renewable energies, infrastructure, transportation, digital transformation, and public enterprise governance.

She noted that one of the most important areas of current cooperation is the support for the Tunisia-Italy electricity interconnection project (ELMED), which offers promising prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional energy integration.

Finally, she added that the EBRD's Board of Directors approved, in February 2026, the "Tunisia 2026-2031 Strategy". This strategy aims to consolidate the partnership's foundations and concretely respond to the objectives of the national development plan 2026-2030.
