Tunisian Court Upholds Six-Year Prison Sentence for Halima Ben Ali
The specialized criminal chamber dealing with financial corruption cases at the Court of Appeal has confirmed the first-instance judgment sentencing Halima Ben Ali to six years in prison and a fine.
In the first instance, the specialized criminal chamber dealing with financial corruption cases at the First Instance Tribunal in Tunis had sentenced Halima Ben Ali, daughter of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, to six years in prison and a fine in a financial case.
Following this judgment, the defendant's lawyer had appealed. However, the Court of Appeal decided to confirm the initial decision, thus maintaining all the penalties pronounced.
