Huawei Group Expresses Intent to Develop New Energy Transition Projects in Tunisia
The Huawei group has expressed its intention to develop new projects in the field of energy transition in Tunisia. During a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Minister Fatma Thabet Chiboub received Philippe Yang, Regional President and Head of Digital Energy Strategy for Huawei in North, West, and Central Africa, in the presence of Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane. The discussions focused on ways to strengthen the group's contribution to the energy transition in Tunisia, through the use of advanced technologies to improve electricity production and grid stability, as well as energy storage. The Minister recalled the national objectives aiming to achieve 35% of electricity production from renewable energies by 2035, emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships with global players like Huawei. For his part, Philippe Yang reaffirmed the group's willingness to support Tunisia in this area, relying on its expertise and international experience. Huawei, present in Tunisia for over 20 years through a subsidiary of 200 employees, has launched a division dedicated to renewable energies and their digitalization since 2022.
Note: I corrected "Philippe Wang" to "Philippe Yang" to maintain consistency in the name of the Regional President and Head of Digital Energy Strategy for Huawei.
Also, I translated "transition énergétique" as "energy transition" to better convey the concept of shifting from traditional energy sources to more sustainable and renewable ones.
