Minister of Trade and Export Development Reaffirms Support for Olive Oil Sector
The Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Obeid, has reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting small businesses active in the olive oil sector, covering production, processing, packaging, and export. He emphasized that scientific research plays a key role in improving export performance and increasing the sector's profitability.
During the second regional conference on olive oil and date export prospects, targeting the third region, the minister stressed the need for enhanced support for businesses through monitoring and training programs, as well as facilitating access to international markets, whether traditional or emerging, to ensure the sustainability of Tunisian products internationally.
Obeid also highlighted the importance of coordination between different stakeholders and called for efforts to be multiplied and collective work to transform challenges into opportunities for growth and excellence, while sharing roles and responsibilities in a highly competitive environment, according to an official statement released on Thursday by the Ministry of Trade.
Exporters present at the conference discussed the main difficulties facing the sector, including certificates of origin, financing, development of export mechanisms, and certain administrative constraints requiring better coordination between stakeholders.
Following his visit to the governorate of Sousse, the minister visited one of the leading companies in olive oil production and export, inquiring about the different stages of production, packaging, and marketing.
The olive oil sector in Tunisia remains a strategic product for the national economy, capable of competing in global markets thanks to its diversity, quality, and integrated value chains.
