Warning Ahead of Ramadan
The ONSR also cautions that accident rates tend to surge during the month of Ramadan. Emergency services typically see a 15 %–20 % increase in serious crashes, especially in the hours leading up to the breaking of the fast (iftar).
“Risky behaviours—excessive speed, phone use while driving, distraction, fatigue, and low blood‑sugar levels—remain the primary aggravating factors,” said a spokesperson for the Observatory. “These issues are especially pronounced during peak traffic periods and in the four hours before iftar.”
