National Pastry Manufacturers Chamber President Sounds Alarm on Sector's Critical State

The President of the National Chamber of Pastry Manufacturers, Samia Dhiab, issued a warning on Tuesday evening, December 2, 2025, regarding the critical state of the sector. During her appearance on Diwan FM, she stated that many pastry manufacturing companies are threatened with closure and bankruptcy due to several structural and economic factors. According to Ms. Dhiab, this situation is primarily the result of:

  • Excessive tax increases, which currently account for 47% of the sector's revenue
  • A shortage of essential raw materials
  • A lack of skilled labor
  • The expansion of the parallel market, which is particularly active on social networks and operates outside of any regulation The President recalled that the Chamber had already appealed to Parliament to review the level of taxation applied to the sector, but had not received a response to date. She also emphasized that the parallel market now accounts for 60% of the pastry market, which severely harms formal businesses and the structuring of the sector. Ms. Dhiab stressed that these problems risk compromising the future of the sector if urgent measures are not taken to restore a viable economic environment, secure supplies, and regulate the informal market.
