Chinese Investment in Tunisia on the Rise
According to the latest data from the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA), 22 Chinese companies are currently operating in Tunisia, with a total volume of foreign direct investment exceeding 31 million dinars, creating around 1,100 jobs.
This announcement comes as Tunisian-Chinese economic cooperation is experiencing a resurgence of interest, marked by an increase in exploratory visits and initiatives from Chinese companies looking to establish themselves in the Tunisian market.
During a visit to Tunis, Li Shiji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, stated that Tunisia occupies a strategic position in the international expansion policy of Chinese companies, particularly within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (New Silk Road).
He praised the country's competitive advantages, citing its geographical location, the competence of its workforce, and the openness of its economy to regional and international markets.
In a meeting with FIPA Director General Jalel Taïeb, the two officials discussed investment opportunities available to Chinese companies, particularly in the automotive, infrastructure, chemical, renewable energy, and tourism sectors.
Taïeb reaffirmed, on this occasion, Tunisia's willingness to consolidate its economic partnership with China, based on mutually beneficial cooperation, specifying that the country remains open to Chinese capital and technology.
