UN Representative Praises Tunisia's Progress on Women's Rights

The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ben Ayed, received on Monday Ms. Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, UN Under-Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women. According to a statement from the department, the meeting was an opportunity to highlight Tunisia's pioneering vision for ensuring human rights, which was materialized in 1846 by the abolition of slavery and reinforced in 1956 by the adoption of the Personal Status Code, consecrating women's rights that the state ensures to strengthen and enforce.

Appreciating the level of cooperation between Tunisia and UN Women, the Secretary of State emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad's availability to provide the necessary support to the Organization's Office in Tunis to accomplish its mission under the best conditions.

For her part, the UN representative praised the achievements of women in Tunisia and the pioneering role played by the country in international forums, particularly within the Commission on the Status of Women, with the aim of empowering women worldwide, wherever they may be.

The meeting demonstrated the strong partnership between Tunisia and the United Nations, particularly in the area of women's empowerment and human rights. Tunisia's commitment to promoting gender equality and women's rights has been recognized internationally, and the country continues to play a leading role in promoting these values globally.
