Tunisia and Italy Launch TANIT KT Project to Promote Sustainable Agriculture
Tunisia and Italy officially launched the TANIT KT project on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Higher School of Agriculture in Mograne. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the value of non-conventional water resources, particularly treated wastewater, to irrigate up to 12,000 hectares in areas severely affected by drought.
Project Objectives
The project plans to establish a Multifunctional Integrated Technology Center (CTIM) in Mograne, dedicated to training, research, and technology transfer. The goal is to develop sustainable and resilient agricultural models in the face of increasing water stress.
Investment and Funding
Italy has committed to mobilizing approximately €400 million over three years, adopting a bilateral investment approach rather than traditional aid, in line with the principles of the revamped Plan Mattei launched in 2024.
Benefits for Tunisia
For Tunisia, the TANIT KT project represents a strategic lever:
- Integration of local capacities
- Job creation
- Development of agro-technological start-ups
- Strengthening of agricultural sectors
The project will be accompanied by a rigorous governance system, with clear performance indicators.
A Concrete Test for the Plan Mattei
More than a diplomatic symbol, TANIT KT will be a concrete test to measure the Plan Mattei's ability to produce sustainable economic results and address the country's climate and social challenges.
