Tunisair Maintenance Program Faces Delays Due to Insufficient Funds

The Ministry of Transport has announced that Tunisair has not yet received the full amount of funds allocated during the Ministerial Council meeting on January 31, 2025, to finance its maintenance program, the largest in the company's history in terms of budget. The ministry specifies that the main reason for the delay is the lack of sufficient liquidity.

Despite this situation, the national airline has financed a significant part of the program, amounting to 106 million dinars, using its own resources, at the expense of other financial obligations. This action aims to strengthen the scheduled fleet, ensure the maintenance of other aircraft, prevent overloading, and improve the quality of services.

Restructuring Program 2026-2030

As part of the restructuring program for 2026-2030, the fleet will be reinforced with eight new aircraft, which will increase transport capacity, improve aircraft availability, and guarantee optimal cabin quality. The implementation of this program will begin as soon as it is approved by the Ministerial Council.

Maintenance Program Progress

Regarding the maintenance program for other aircraft, 55% of the work has been completed between September 2024 and September 2025.

Expansion of Tunis-Carthage International Airport

The Ministry has also recalled that the project to expand Tunis-Carthage International Airport is currently being studied by the Technical Commission for Major Projects and will be presented to the Commission for Major Projects for approval before the start of construction work.

Rescue Plan for Tunisair

Finally, as part of the rescue plan for the company, several financial measures were adopted during the Ministerial Council meeting on January 31, 2025, including:

  • A treasury loan of 10 million dinars
  • The allocation of credits via the Central Bank amounting to 15 million dollars (convention signed on January 27, 2025)
  • The reprofiling of debts to the National Petroleum Distribution Company and the National Social Security Fund
  • The transformation of a 35 million dinar loan from the National Agricultural Bank

The Ministry specifies that other measures are underway, including claims related to the National Post Office, the Deposit and Consignment Fund, as well as two loans from public banks.
