Tunisair Prepares to Strengthen its Fleet as Part of its Rescue Plan

Tunisair, the national airline, is preparing to reinforce its fleet as part of its rescue plan aimed at restoring its financial stability and improving its services. The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, specified that the company currently operates thirteen aircraft and that a new aircraft will be added before the end of the year, bringing the fleet to fourteen aircraft.

Fleet Expansion and Service Improvement

As part of this program, Tunisair plans to acquire eight additional aircraft through a leasing formula with an option to purchase. This initiative will enable the company to operate more than sixty daily flights, while maintaining the activity of fast lines, particularly on the Djerba route. The opening of new domestic lines will be studied based on their profitability.

Rationalization of Assets and Infrastructure Development

The rescue plan also includes better management of Tunisair's real estate assets, distributed between national and foreign agencies. The Minister of Transport emphasized the need to rationalize the agency network, noting that "the existence of a large number of agencies no longer makes sense since customers now buy their tickets online."

Infrastructure Projects and Global Restructuring

Several infrastructure projects are scheduled to support the development of air transport, including the extension of Tunis-Carthage airport to increase its capacity and improve the quality of services. The overall objective of the rescue plan is to gradually achieve the company's financial balance by 2026. Tunisair and its partners are also benefiting from global restructuring projects, including the Tunisian Navigation Company and the Tunisian Freight and Port Handling Company, in order to ensure consistency in the transport sector.

Key Objectives

  • Reinforce the fleet with the addition of new aircraft
  • Improve services and increase daily flights
  • Rationalize the agency network and manage real estate assets effectively
  • Develop infrastructure to support air transport growth
  • Achieve financial balance by 2026 through gradual restructuring and improvement of services.
