Creation of a New Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Specialty in Tunisia
The President of the Tunisian Association of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Dr. Hédi Gharsallah, confirmed today, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the creation of a new specialty in hyperbaric oxygen therapy at the Faculty of Medicine in Tunis, effective from the current academic year.
As a guest on the "Yom Saïd" show on national radio, Dr. Gharsallah specified that the specialty will be taught over a period of four years, similar to other specialties. He emphasized that Tunisia has only one hyperbaric oxygen therapy center, established in 2008 at the Military Hospital, which is not limited to treating military personnel but is open to all citizens.
Dr. Gharsallah also noted that around 50 doctors have been trained in this specialty, but the number of active practitioners is low due to the existence of this single treatment center.
