Tunis' Habib Bourguiba Avenue Hosts Producer-to-Consumer Market

The Habib Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis hosted a producer-to-consumer market on Thursday, organized to bring citizens closer to farmers and promote certified origin products. This initiative is part of a partnership project between the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fishing (UTAP) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The program aims to reduce distribution circuits, limit food waste in urban areas, and promote sustainable food systems. The event was organized in collaboration with the municipalities of Tunis and La Goulette, as part of an ecological management approach for urban green spaces, based on recycling and valorization of organic waste. The market brought together a wide range of Tunisian products, including:

  • Deglet Nour dates and their derivatives
  • Pomegranates
  • Barbary figs
  • Cereals
  • Legumes
  • Jams
  • Natural honey
  • Snails
  • Quails
  • Fish from cage-based aquaculture Visitors, both Tunisian and foreign, praised the quality of the products on display and the affordable prices offered, making this event a showcase for local agricultural expertise and efforts towards sustainable food.
