Tunis Court Delivers Verdict in Animal Cruelty Case
The correctional chamber of the Court of First Instance of Tunis 2 delivered its verdict on Friday, December 5, 2025, in the case of a woman who appeared in a video spraying cats with gasoline before burning them alive. The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 15 days in prison. On the civil level, the court deemed the complaint admissible and ordered the accused to pay court costs and attorney's fees to the two associations that joined the case as civil parties: Arrahma for Animal Protection and Friends of Animals and the Environment. Other civil claims were rejected, while some costs remain the responsibility of the plaintiffs. As a reminder, the case had sparked widespread outrage on social media after a video showed the intentional burning of live cats.
