US President Donald Trump Signs Decree to Ensure Qatar's Security
US President Donald Trump signed a decree on Wednesday, committing to guarantee the security of Qatar, stating that any armed attack on the Gulf country would be considered a threat to the peace and security of the United States. The decree, which was shared with the press by the US Embassy in Qatar, highlights the long-standing cooperation between the two countries, noting that Qatar has hosted American forces, facilitated crucial security operations, and acted as a steadfast ally of the United States in the pursuit of peace, stability, and prosperity, including playing a mediating role in regional and global conflicts. In the decree, Mr. Trump declares that the policy of the United States will be to ensure the security and territorial integrity of Qatar against any external aggression, and that Washington will take "all necessary legal and appropriate measures - including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military - to defend the interests of the United States and the State of Qatar and restore peace and stability." This signature comes two days after the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House, during which he apologized to Qatar for a recent airstrike on Doha. According to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netanyahu expressed regret over the incident and promised it would not happen again. On September 9, the Israeli entity launched an airstrike on Doha, claiming to target high-ranking Hamas officials based in the city. Hamas indicated that its delegation was in Doha to discuss a US-negotiated ceasefire proposal. The attack killed five Palestinians and a Qatari security officer, sparking widespread international condemnation.
