Minister of Transport Highlights Importance of Investing in Next-Generation Ports

The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, has emphasized that the intensification of regional and international competition and the acceleration of technological development in the maritime sector require investment in next-generation ports.

Speaking during a working session dedicated to monitoring the implementation of the deep-water port project and the logistics services zone in Enfidha (Sousse Governorate), as well as examining the financing mechanisms, Amri highlighted the benefits of this deep-water port, particularly in terms of cost control, capacity to accommodate very large ships, and enhanced attractiveness for investment.

He also stressed its role in developing export chains, transforming the third district located in the center of the country, and connecting the western border with Algeria to the eastern coast, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport published on Saturday.

The Minister emphasized the importance of this strategic project due to Tunisia's privileged position in the Mediterranean, which accounts for 30% of global maritime traffic.

Tunisia is determined to implement this project within the framework of total respect for national sovereignty and according to a progressive approach and a precise schedule, in accordance with the various policies of the State, particularly in the environmental field, the Minister added.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Transport, the CEO of the Enfidha Port Company, the CEO of the Merchant Marine and Ports Office (OMMP), as well as representatives from the Ministries of Economy and Planning, Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Equipment and Housing, and Environment.
