New Bus Fleet to Enhance Public Transportation in Tunisia

This Saturday, February 7, 2026, Tarek Bouazizi, Director General of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport, confirmed the launch of a new tender for the acquisition of 621 additional buses. These vehicles will be distributed across all governorates in the country and are expected to be operational by the next school year.

The official specified that the ministry's strategy aims to strengthen the public collective transportation system to alleviate the daily suffering of users, secure their travel, and improve connections between regions and the capital.

In parallel with this new announcement, a Chinese ship arrived this morning at the port of La Goulette with 132 buses on board. This delivery is part of a contract already concluded with China for the total acquisition of 461 new buses.

Tarek Bouazizi explained that this first order of 461 vehicles will be distributed to the 13 regional transport companies as well as the National Interurban Transport Company (SNTRI). He emphasized that the entire batch consists of articulated buses (double-deckers), which will be specifically dedicated to school and university transportation.

A Call to Citizenship

In the face of this massive investment, the Director General made an urgent appeal to citizens and users. He urged them to preserve these buses, describing them as a "national gain," and reminded them that any act of vandalism directly impacts the continuity and quality of this essential public service.

As a reminder, the shipment of this first batch of Chinese buses began on January 4, 2026.
