General Director of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport Announces Surge in Attacks on Tunisian Transport Fleet

On Friday, March 6 2026, Tarek Bouaziz, the General Director of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport, announced that 900 assaults have been recorded against the fleet of the Transport de Tunis company in the Greater Tunis region.

During a telephone interview broadcast on the national radio, Bouaziz highlighted a sharp increase in attacks targeting bus and light‑metro networks.

He explained that these acts of vandalism:

  • Disrupt the operation of public transport services
  • Threaten service continuity
  • Cause significant financial losses for the company
  • Further strain the state budget

The official also emphasized that maintenance, repair operations, and the procurement of spare parts entail very high costs.

Bouaziz concluded by noting that the assaults also target the personnel responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of public transport, underscoring the growing difficulties they face while carrying out their duties.
