Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, Presides Over Meeting to Boost Domestic Airports
The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, chaired a working session on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, dedicated to developing an action plan to revitalize Tunisia's domestic airports. The meeting brought together several officials from the ministry, including representatives from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, Tunisair, Tunisair Express, the Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA), the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, and the Tunisian Federation of Travel Agencies.
According to a statement released by the ministry today, after reviewing proposals from all parties present at the session, the Minister decided to implement a participatory action plan that will lead to a program with integrated objectives, both short-term and medium-term. This program will effectively launch a significant boost to the country's domestic airports in the field of passenger and cargo transportation, within a comprehensive approach that encompasses economic, tourist, cultural, marketing, and other spheres.
Particular attention will be paid to the specificities and advantages of each region, taking into account the available facilities, infrastructure, and logistical means in these air platforms, which enable safe flights. Emphasizing the role of the air transport sector in achieving development and opening up the country to promising markets, Rachid Amri called for the establishment of this practical plan, starting with airports with the greatest capacity to achieve objectives, while ensuring all guarantees of continuity of air activity and the operation of profitable flights for airlines, particularly Tunisair.
He also stressed the distribution of roles among a permanent working team representing all stakeholders, each in their domain and within the framework of their responsibilities, for integrated and effective execution. The Minister added that the revitalization of domestic airports must take into account the new territorial division based on regions (or "echelons"), which aims primarily to achieve interregional balances in social and economic fields and eliminate development disparities.
This is all the more relevant as this system offers each region maritime and land access that can be connected to airports, thus improving the mode of transportation in Tunisia, whether for citizens, national and foreign tourists, or investors.
