Remittances from Tunisians Living Abroad Expected to Increase by 6.4% in 2026

According to statements made by Lotfi Fradi, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Economy and Planning, remittances from Tunisians living abroad are expected to increase by 6.4% in 2026, reaching approximately 7.9 billion dinars.

Fradi made these comments during a workshop organized by the Economic Commission for Africa on "Remittances from Tunisians living abroad, investments, and contribution to development financing in Tunisia." He emphasized that although this amount is high overall, its share in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has not progressed as desired.

He called for better awareness among the Tunisian diaspora about the importance of transferring their resources and investing in Tunisia. He also stressed the need to develop tax incentives for Tunisians abroad, allowing them to obtain external loans and create investment funds specifically for them.

According to the Chief of Staff, remittances from Tunisians abroad for the entire year 2025 are expected to reach approximately 7.6 billion dinars, representing an increase of 8.3%. He described this amount as significant, as it will enable the country to cope with pressures related to mobilizing external financing resources and providing a volume of foreign currency.

The official emphasized the importance of using these remittances optimally to stimulate development activity in Tunisia, primarily by directing them towards investment projects. He noted that only a portion of these resources is currently allocated to traditional investments, such as building homes for families of Tunisians abroad or buying cars.

He added that "the Tunisian community living abroad is today capable of launching investment projects in their regions and being a driver of development for all interior regions."

The spokesperson also highlighted that the state offers the diaspora significant investment opportunities in promising activities related to the specialties of Tunisians abroad, such as medical professions, pharmaceutical production, computer science, software development, and services.
