Current Date Palm Season in Tozeur Governorate Shows Positive Signs
The current date palm season in the Tozeur governorate is considered a good season, with positive signs. The production volume is expected to exceed 60,000 tons, according to initial estimates, with a quality superior to that of last season, said Naceur Mkadm, President of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Sales and Production
The same source added that sales of the product on the tree have reached an important stage in the Tozeur governorate, with nearly 70% of palm groves, whether new or old, sold at encouraging prices. He also emphasized that the production is distinguished by good quality, particularly because there has been no major contamination by the dust mite.
Maturation and Harvesting
Maturation has also reached advanced stages, with some plots showing respectable maturity rates. Some farmers have already started harvesting themselves and offering their production on the wholesale date market. The same source specified that the harvest will officially begin in early October and will continue until the beginning of November with the intervention of exporters and collectors.
Packaging Operations
This season, the packaging operations for date regimes with mosquito nets concerned about 60% of the total number of regimes, with the use of nearly 8,500 units of mosquito nets. This quantity is considered low, but the remaining stocks of mosquito nets from last season were used.
