Tozeur Gears Up for a Grand Promotional Event Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars Filming in the Region’s Desert Sites
The governorate of Tozeur is preparing a large‑scale promotional showcase to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic Star Wars scenes shot across several desert locations in the area. The initiative aims to boost Tozeur’s appeal as a premier destination for cinematic tourism.
A First‑Ever Photo Exhibition
As part of the celebration, an exclusive photographic exhibition dedicated to the behind‑the‑scenes of the Star Wars shoot will open on 22 March in one of the city’s main tourist venues. The show will feature a curated selection of rare, high‑value images that document the production conditions and the unique atmosphere on the Tunisian sets, offering both artistic and historical insight.
Coordination and Planning
Preparations kicked off during a working meeting held at the governorate’s headquarters, bringing together stakeholders from the tourism and cultural sectors. Participants examined strategies to ensure the success of the event and to further highlight the region’s exceptional natural and cinematic heritage.
“This anniversary is a strategic opportunity to solidify Tozeur’s position on alternative‑tourism circuits, especially those focused on international filming locations,” said the regional tourism commissioner. He added that the Tunisian National Office of Tourism (ONTT) is fully committed to promoting Tunisia as a whole and Tozeur in particular.
Partners
The exhibition is organized by the ONTT in collaboration with French collector Christophe Hous, renowned for preserving photographic archives related to cinema. Through this partnership, regional authorities hope to attract film enthusiasts from around the world and revive tourism dynamics around the iconic sites that served as backdrops for one of the most celebrated sagas in the history of the seventh art.
