Pasteur Institute of Tunis Receives Visit from M. Alain Merieux, President of the Merieux Foundation

The Pasteur Institute of Tunis received a visit on Wednesday from M. Alain Merieux, President of the Merieux Foundation, accompanied by members of his management team, as part of a strengthening of the scientific partnership and cooperation in terms of health security.

At the center of the discussions: support for level 3 laboratories (P3 / BSL-3) and commitment to creating a level 2 biological safety laboratory (P2) in Tunisia. This initiative aims to strengthen national capacities for microbiological diagnosis and early surveillance of epidemics, in a "One Health" approach integrating human, animal, and environmental health.

The delegations met with researchers from the Pasteur Institute and discussed scientific priorities, strategic projects, and cooperation prospects. Professor Samia Mneif presented the institute's missions and main activities, while Dr. Asma Farjani detailed the operations and measures to strengthen skills within the P3 laboratory, with the goal of making this structure a national training center and a reference platform.

Professor Hachmi Louzir emphasized the importance of supporting national capacities to anticipate and effectively respond to emerging health threats.

During the visit, M. Alain Merieux reaffirmed his foundation's commitment to continuing support for Tunisia, through the establishment of the P2 laboratory and the strengthening of training programs and expertise sharing, in order to improve the country's preparedness for health risks and consolidate its sovereignty in public health.
