Tunisian Economy Minister Emphasizes Focus on Daily Life Impact
Tunis, April 28, 2026 - Tunisian Economy and Planning Minister Samir Abdelhafidh highlighted the primary objective of economic policies as achieving a direct and tangible impact on the daily lives of Tunisians, through improved public services and reduced price increases, despite some economic indicators showing improvement.
During a dialogue session with members of the National Council of Regions and Districts, Abdelhafidh explained that the 5% inflation rate does not necessarily mean a decrease in prices, but rather a slowdown in their increase compared to previous years.
The minister emphasized that the price hike mainly concerns non-subsidized food products of common consumption, due to external influences such as fluctuations in imported raw materials prices on global markets, as well as distribution circuit imbalances and speculation.
In this context, the state is intensifying its efforts to control prices by monitoring distribution circuits and fighting speculators, while working to improve growth and development indicators.
Regarding regional development, Abdelhafidh stressed the need to achieve a balance in resource distribution between different regions, particularly due to limited resources. He specified that the adopted criterion combines the regional development index and population size.
The Economy Minister also announced an increase in credits allocated to the "Integrated Development Program" to improve living conditions, from 250 million dinars in 2025 to 300 million dinars in 2026.
Regarding investment, Abdelhafidh indicated that the government is working to simplify administrative procedures and remove obstacles related to economic authorizations, highlighting the relative success in resolving several problems faced by investors, particularly in the private sector.
The current political orientation consists of grouping similar administrative structures to reduce institutional inflation and improve efficiency, the minister recalled.
Internationally, Samir Abdelhafidh stated that the government closely follows the evolution of the global economic crisis through a technical committee anticipating possible scenarios. He affirmed that the Tunisian economy has shown its resilience in the face of previous crises.
The Economy Minister also mentioned the adoption of a strategy for diversifying international partnerships and maintaining national choices, with an improvement in the pace of disbursements of external financing for projects.
Regarding foreign investment, Abdelhafidh indicated that efforts are directed towards attracting high-value-added projects in key sectors and promoting investment in renewable energies and reducing the energy deficit.
