Tunisia Boosts Tourism Efforts with New Initiatives

Ons Ben Ghorbal, the head of information and communication at the Ministry of Tourism, announced that the ministry is working to support domestic tourism, improve services, and expand internationally by attracting new markets such as China and the Gulf region.

Support for Tourist Municipalities

During a phone interview on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, on National Radio, Ben Ghorbal explained that the ministry has allocated a total of over 9 million dinars to support the 75 tourist municipalities in the Republic. These support operations for tourist municipalities cover environmental aspects, cleaning, and the acquisition of logistical equipment, among other things.

Unified Digital Platform for Tourist Restaurants

Ben Ghorbal mentioned the implementation of numerous programs and action plans by the supervisory authority to strengthen the tourism sector and improve services. These include a program to valorize organic waste from hotels and programs to qualify and integrate new languages to attract new markets. The goal is to diversify the tourist product and agree on the preparation of a unified digital platform dedicated to the census of different tourist restaurants and the presentation of available offers.

Revision of Hotel Classifications

The Ministry of Tourism also aims to diversify travel and direct it to different regions of the Republic, given that each region of Tunisia is rich in cultural, environmental, agricultural, and tourist heritage. The spokesperson emphasized that there is an orientation towards revising hotel classifications, in addition to continuous monitoring and control of tourist restaurants.

Over 7,000 Inspection Operations

In this context, Ben Ghorbal revealed that until the end of November, more than 7,000 inspection operations were carried out, covering all structures involved in the tourism sector. Saharan Tourism

Regarding Saharan tourism, the head of information at the Ministry of Tourism indicated that the ministry attaches great importance to this sector, specifying that the governorate of Tozeur is preparing to organize the second edition of Saharan Tourism and the Oasis on January 30 and 31 and February 1, 2026. She affirmed that the accommodation capacity in Tozeur has been increased with the entry into activity of two tourist units, adding that efforts are underway to multiply flights to Tozeur.

Importance of Early Booking for Summer 2026

Meanwhile, Ons Ben Ghorbal emphasized the importance and necessity of early booking for summer 2026, considering that this mechanism allows for obtaining the best offers. She noted that the ministry aims to establish an integrated digital approach, including the development of electronic reservation channels and the adoption of intelligent systems for managing reservations, thus ensuring rapid processing, clear data, and improved quality indicators.
