Nationwide Power Outage Hits Iraq
A general electricity failure struck the entire Iraqi territory on Wednesday, causing a total blackout across all provinces of the country. Authorities said the causes of this major incident are still under investigation.
Official Statement
In a press release, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity confirmed the complete shutdown of the national power grid, noting that technical teams are currently working to gradually restore supply.
“The electrical system has collapsed entirely in every province,” the ministry told the Iraqi Press Agency. “Operations are underway to bring power plants back online and reconnect disconnected installations so that electricity can be restored as quickly as possible.”
Ongoing Investigation
The authorities have not yet identified the exact reasons for the outage. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the incident that plunged the nation into darkness.
U.S. Embassy Advisory
The U.S. Embassy in Iraq urged American citizens residing in the country to exercise caution. In a message posted on the X platform, the embassy recommended that U.S. nationals:
- Leave Iraq as soon as security conditions allow, and
- Stay in their current residences until a safe departure can be arranged.
“If the situation permits, American citizens should leave Iraq immediately,” the embassy stated, emphasizing the need to monitor developments closely.
