Inhabitants of the Southern Hemisphere Prepare to Witness a Rare Partial Solar Eclipse on Sunday, September 21, 2025
This rare astronomical event is nicknamed the "Equinox Eclipse". Dr. Ashraf Tadros, a professor of astronomy at the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, explained that this phenomenon confirms that lunar eclipses only occur when the Moon is full, and solar eclipses only occur when the Moon is new. He specified that this partial solar eclipse will take place approximately two weeks after the total lunar eclipse, at a time when the Moon will be in its new moon phase. Dr. Tadros emphasized that this eclipse will only be visible in the southern part of the globe, particularly in southern Australia, the Pacific Ocean, and Antarctica. He also added that solar and lunar eclipses can be used to determine the beginning and end of lunar months (or Hijri months), as they clearly illustrate the movement of the Moon around the Earth and the Earth around the Sun.
