The Press — If We Consider
If we consider that Ahmed Jaouadi is only twenty years old, that Rahmouni is only in his 14th year, that taekwondo athletes are almost all at the beginning of their careers, that the under-16 basketball team is making a name for itself, that there are young people emerging in athletics, weightlifting, and other sports, that football has significantly rejuvenated its core and doesn't need the return of veteran players to consolidate its record of participation in the World Cup, we could assume that Tunisian sports are in possession of a new generation that is worth its weight in gold. It's worth wondering where these talented young boys and girls come from, who are discovered with so few resources and a dilapidated infrastructure.
Of Course, Everything Depends on the Sport
In team sports, we shouldn't have too many illusions. Many of our potential rivals have taken a lead that can be caught up, but it will require significant financial means. Everything in this area will depend on the ability of the federal offices in place to convince sponsors. There is a lot to be done in this sector. Sponsors are attracted to high-level champions, which represents a safe return on investment for them. Tennis, in the time of Ons Jabeur, handball, in the era of the 2005 team, football when the 1978 team was at its peak, etc., prove that it is possible to present interesting offers.
But Tunisian Sports
Tunisian sports, which at one time benefited from significant contributions from a percentage of the turnover of commercial companies that could be allocated to sports and cultural associations and deducted from the tax base, saw this advantage abolished due to the trafficking that took place. Things have since evolved. With more reliable and easier means of control, and better tracking of subsidies, could we one day return to this law, which would necessarily alleviate the burden on the state, currently occupied with other priorities?
Federations, Clubs, and Sports Schools
Federations, amateur clubs that train athletes, training centers, school and university sports that we want to relaunch, and sports for all - these are the backbone of sports and need increasingly important resources to function. We see what happens through international meetings, prospectuses designed for international events organized abroad, and the impressive number of sponsors who help these clubs or federations meet the needs of sports other than football. It's a niche that it would be interesting to return to, taking maximum precautions to avoid abuses. This may be a way to help the state and avoid conflicts of interest that will ultimately distort competitions and further impoverish our sports.
