Libyan Authorities Identify Three Suspects in the Assassination of Saif al‑Islam Kadhafi
Libyan officials announced that they have identified three suspects involved in the killing of Saif al‑Islam, the son of former Colonel Mouammar Kadhafi. The murder took place in early February in the western city of Zintan. No details have yet been released regarding the suspects’ identities or nationalities.
According to a statement from the Office of the Attorney General, investigations launched immediately after the crime allowed authorities to pinpoint the suspects’ meeting place and the exact moment they moved toward the assassination site. These inquiries led to the formal identification of three individuals and the issuance of arrest warrants against them.
The communiqué also outlines the execution plan: the suspects allegedly surveilled Saif al‑Islam at his residence, entered the house, and then surrounded him in the courtyard before opening fire. Struck by multiple bullets, Saif al‑Islam died on the spot. His French lawyer, however, maintains that the operation was carried out by a four‑person group.
