Sousse Emerges as a Major Driver of Tunisian Tourism in 2025
Sousse is establishing itself as a key engine of Tunisian tourism in 2025, thanks to a record-breaking number of visitors, largely driven by Algerian tourists. Although geographically distant, the city remains close to the hearts of travelers, recording significant growth indicators that confirm its strategic role in the post-pandemic tourism recovery.
Record-Breaking Visitor Numbers
The numbers recorded in 2025 confirm this trend, with a record influx of Algerian visitors, who now top the list of foreign tourists in the city. According to Mohamed Boujdariya, Regional Tourism Commissioner, Sousse welcomed 895,154 tourists between January 1 and September 10, 2025, representing a 9.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024. In just the first ten days of September, the city recorded nearly 60,000 arrivals, confirming a significant resurgence in attractiveness.
Algerians Lead the Way
Among foreign visitors, Algerians are at the forefront, with 155,693 tourists during this period, representing a 10.8% increase. They surpass the British, who nonetheless recorded a spectacular increase with 97,903 arrivals (+46.8%), followed by the Poles (52,473, +7%).
Overnight Stays
In terms of overnight stays, the British maintain their advantage, with 728,907 nights sold, up 47.2%. Algerians rank second with 654,527 nights, recording a 14.4% increase.
A Resurgence in Tourism
These performances confirm the massive return of tourists to the seaside resort, after years of instability linked to the pandemic. The growing strength of neighboring markets, particularly the Algerian market, highlights the regional complementarity of the Tunisian tourism sector.
Sousse Reinforces its Position
With double-digit growth in several indicators, Sousse is strengthening its position as a major tourist hub in the Mediterranean, driven by the loyalty of Algerian tourists and the return of European markets.
