China's New High-Speed Train, CR450, Sets Record with 453 km/h Speed

The CR450, China's newest high-speed train, has broken a record by reaching a speed of 453 km/h during a series of tests on a high-speed line between Shanghai and Chengdu, reported the Science and Technology Daily on Tuesday.

Design and Capabilities

Designed to reach 450 km/h in the testing phase and 400 km/h in commercial operation, the CR450 represents the new generation of Chinese high-speed rail technology. According to engineers, the train can accelerate from 0 to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds. In a spectacular test, two trains crossed each other at a combined speed of 896 km/h, setting a new world record.

Comparison with Predecessor

Compared to its predecessor, the CR400 Fuxing, the CR450 stands out with a longer nose, a refined aerodynamic profile with a lowered roof line by 20 centimeters, and a reduced weight of 50 tons, which decreases air resistance by 22%.

Commercial Operation

Before entering commercial service, the CR450 must travel 600,000 kilometers without incident to ensure its reliability and safety. The current CR400 trains in service operate at a maximum speed of 350 km/h.
